Institute's Annual Report 2019-20
It gives me immense pleasure and satisfaction in bringing out Institute's Annual Report 2019-20. We have tried to consolidate our academic and research activities despite the adverse situation faced by the Institute in the face of the corona pandemic.
The contribution of the faculty members and research scholars towards the academic goals of the Institute is reflected in their activities. The deliberations by the Institute's faculty members and their presentations of research papers and articles in various seminars, conferences, and workshops all over the country and outside, have been in conformity with the engagement lending credibility to the academic and research values of the Institute.
Academic Contributions
The faculty members of the Institute have been engaged in all the three outlined activities of research, teaching, and training and have completed as many as 18 research projects and engaged in 15 ongoing research projects. The number of proposed research projects during this year was 34.
Besides, 18 research papers were published in reputed journals in addition to chapters in edited volumes and working papers/monographs. The participation of the faculty members in seminars, conferences, consultations, and the presentation of papers was remarkably high.
The contribution of the doctoral students to the annual research corpus was also of considerable significance. During this period, three research scholars were awarded Ph.D. degrees and two scholars have submitted their thesis.
Special Lectures and Seminars
Scholars of international repute have been visiting the Institute and benefitting the local academia by delivering special lectures. A N Sinha Institute Memorial Lecture on "Battleground Agriculture: Indian Farmers against Neoliberalism" was delivered by Prof. Praveen K Jha, Professor of Economics, CESP, School of Social Sciences, JNU. The Foundation Day Lecture on "Recent Social Movements and Democratic Dissent in India" was delivered by Dr. Zoya Hasan, Professor Emerita, CPS, JNU.
Besides these regular seminars, a National Seminar on "COVID-19 in India and Sustainable Development Goals" was organized with ICSSR & C3-Sakshmma. A webinar on "Covid-19, Livelihoods and Food Security of Informal Migrants" was organized on 28 July, 2021. Consequent to this, another dissemination seminar on "Covid-19 impact on Livelihood, Food-insecurity & Dietary Diversity of Low-Income Migrant Workers in Bihar was organized.
In addition to the seminars and conferences, different training programmes and workshops were organized by the Institute. A few of these are: Training Programme for officials of Bihar Revenue Service & Bihar Rural Development Service on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Ten Days Refresher Training on Social Science Research Methods sponsored by ICSSR, and Bihar Police Administrative Training on Land Reforms Act/Rules Circular: Practice, Procedure and Case Study.
Doctoral Programmes
The doctoral programme leading to a Ph.D. degree with financial support in the form of institutional doctoral fellowships from the ICSSR, New Delhi, through the Institute provides an opportunity for students to pursue doctoral work in a professional way. More than 50 doctoral fellows have been pursuing research at the Institute.
At ANSISS we continue to pool our resources not only from the Government of Bihar and ICSSR but also from other sources, so that financial hardship cannot deflect the Institute from its objective of achieving excellence in the creative world of knowledge.
